On-campus activities:
Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time to work with the
youth at Uta Halee and Cooper Village. When participating in on-campus
activities, you get a chance to interact with our youth. Staff is present
at all times, and you will receive a short orientation to help you feel
more comfortable while spending time on our campuses.
We have four categories of on-campus volunteering available:
Friends of the School
As a Friends of the School member you are asked to donate time to assist
with projects that aren't always in the educational budget. For example,
you might bake goodies or assist with extra-curricular activities such
as carnivals and talent shows. This volunteer position primarily takes
place during the school year.
Guest Speaker
As a Guest Speaker (Brown Bag Speaker), you will have the opportunity
to engage in casual conversation with our youth at lunch or in the evening.
This gives you an opportunity to share information about your field
of work or your interests and hobbies. By sharing your experiences,
our kids can connect with someone who may help them renew their sense
of community.
Tutor
As a tutor, you will work with youth who are struggling academically.
A tutor needs to be available during the day in order to coordinate
the academic needs for the youth who would benefit from such assistance.
Special Activities
Our special activities guests spend time with the youth participating
in a variety of activities, such as leading a group in a sports activity
or teaching an art technique. We will use the volunteer visitor interest
inventory to match your interests with the appropriate activity on campus.
